Yeovil were forced to make two changes as they sought to go top of the table with victory over Shrewsbury Town on Monday.

Darren Way

Michael Rose was out with a twisted ankle and was replaced at full back by Colin Miles, Paul Terry moved into midfield to replace Lee Johnson and Scott Guyett came in at the back.

The game they started with a very flat atmosphere and with Shrewsbury looking to defend deep the Yeovil attack was given a lot of space as they attacked from the start.

With Mr.Singh in charge we knew we had a good referee, but he did rather puzzle everybody when he booked Stolcers in the first minute. It appeared to be for kicking the ball away as it went out of play but seemed rather harsh at that stage of the game.

Yeovil's first real chance was on 5 mins when a good move involving Kevin Gall and Terry Skiverton fell to Phil Jevons but his shot went just wide.

A minute later Andrejs Stolcers shot over as The Glovers were almost invited to test Scott Howie in the Shrews goal.

Yeovil were enjoying plenty of the play and seemed to be attacking Shrewsbury almost at will although Sedgemore deserved his yellow card for crudely taking out Bartosz Tarachulski.

A great move involving Stolcers, Way and Stolcers ended when Shrewsbury just managed to head Stolcers goalbound shot wide for a corner in the 21st. minute and it seemed only a matter of time before Yeovil would get the goal their possession deserved.

The game though still seemed flat but eventually in the 33rd. minute the goal came after Paul Terry pushed the ball to Darren Way and his crisp shot from 25 yards out was soon nestling in the net with Howie well beaten.

Yeovil continued to attack but without the usual intensity but the goal probably saved them a more severe verbal eye bashing from the manager at half time.

Half time: Yeovil Town 1 Shrewsbury Town 0

Shrewsbury came out in the second half looking more lively but the first real chance again fell to Yeovil when a free kick on the right from Gall was just saved by Howie for a corner.

Andrejs Stolcers was again having a major influence on the game and in the 55th. minute he won another corner but Darren Way only managed to shot just over.

Bartosz Tarachulski

Just when you thought Yeovil were in safe control though Shrewsbury broke clear and Weale appeared to bring down Edwards for a certain penalty. Weale felt he didn't touch Edwards but Mr.Singh wasted no time in pointing to the spot.

Sedgemoor stepped up and put the ball away with ease to draw Shrewsbury level.

Yeovil tried to hit back straight away and forced yet another corner but clearly changes were on the way and on 66 minutes Gary Johnson brought on Stephen Reed for Scott Guyett and Arron Davies for Phil Jevons.

The changes had the desired effect and their seemed a bit more energy from the side, but the incident that really sparked the game into life resulted in Colin Miles getting a red card.

Colin Miles

Rodgers broke clear but was well and truly taken out by one of the now famous Miles red mists!!

Within a couple of minutes Yeovil were 2-1 down when another break saw Shrewsbury with a 3 on 2 situation and Edwards scored with ease past Weale.

As the fireworks continued within two minutes of going in front Luke Rodgers and Andy Lindegaard had a slight disagreement which resulted in a real handbag situation but only Rodgers was shown the card and was off. Paul Terry was also booked in the incident.

The game was now at feverpitch with Yeovil pushing forward to grab an equaliser. Adi Caceres came on for Bartosz Tarachulski in the 76th. minute and within a minute Yeovil were level.

Another Gall free kick saw a great Skiverton header saved by Howie but the ball was not properly cleared and Paul Terry headed home to tie the game at 2-2.

Yeovil now sniffed blood and the all out assault was surely going to get the goal they deserved and it came in the 84th. minute when a great ball from Davies to Gall was passed on to Adi Caceres whose strike was clinical.
With two minutes to go a typical example of Yeovil's quality play was served up for the now happy Huish Park crowd.

Andy Lindegaard headed the ball out of defence, the ball was picked up by Adi Caceres who in turn found Gall and this time his finish was both precise and true to finally put Shrewsbury to the sword.

So as they sit proudly on top of Coca Cola League Two Yeovil now have the distinction of being the leading scorers in the land. Not bad for only their second season in League football.

Where they go from here remains to be seen but with the gap to the last play off places now fourteen points Gary and the team can go into their cup game with Rotherham on a high note.
