Yeovil Town again found themselves in the wonderful setting of the Liberty stadium for the first of this season's encounters with old rivals Swansea City.

Coming into the game the manager made a change to his previous starting line-up with Ishmael Welsh dropping to the bench to accommodate new signing Marcus Stewart - a move which in the end saw the former Ipswich man play out a man of he match performance in what was a deserved 1-1 draw.

Keeping with the five man midfield, Wayne Gray dropped to the left wing to allow Stewart to operate as the lone striker, with Lee Morris on the right of midfield.

In the central area Paul Terry sat in front of the defence, with Jean-Paul Kalala anchoring the centre, allowing Chrissie Cohen the freedom to push forward wherever possible.

In defence it was as you were with Steve Mildenhall taking his usual place in goal behind a back line of Terry Skiverton, Terrell Forbes, Nathan Jones  and Mark Lynch.

Despite the fact that the stadium announcer almost forgot to turn off the pre-match music the match soon got underway with Stewart, Morris and Cohen immediately busy in an attempt to give their side an early advantage.

The Glovers were confidently knocking the ball about in midfield, and as a result they were enjoying most of the early possession.

They were getting into some good positions too, with this typified in the 6th minute when Jones pushed up into midfield to send in Chris Cohen who got the better of the defence, but couldn't make his final ball count.

The Swans were not sitting back either and in the 7th minute won a free kick on the edge of Yeovil's box, with Trundle testing Mildenhall with a good strike, forcing the keeper into a fine two handed save.

This livened the game up nicely with both sides now attacking well.

On 11 minutes Amankwaah broke well down the wing eventually getting the ball to Robinson who got in a good cross for Fallon to go close with a good solid header.

Yeovil were playing their part in a good end-to-end entertaining match, with the Cohen, Stewart and Morris combination having a massive influence on the proceedings.

And it was Morris on 18 minutes who broke superbly into the Swansea box, beat a defender to send in a decent close range shot which the keeper pared away at his near post.

As the half moved into the final quarter Swansea started to assert a bit more pressure with Fallon, Robinson and Trundle becoming a real menace.

A series of free kicks and corners were forced, and with it Skiverton, Forbes, and the rest of the defence worked wonders as they averted any danger.

The Glovers were still worthy attackers too though, with the usual trio still doing very well.

In essence though the game had slowed quite a lot, with both sides being a little more measured in their attacks.

With five minutes to go it was Yeovil's turn to add some pressure, with Morris, Stewart and Cohen at the centre of most things with some excellent work around the Swans penalty box, ably backed by some fine play from Jones, Kalala and Terry.

On 40 minutes Morris got down the right side in great fashion to eventually get in a fine cross for the head of Gray, forcing Gueret to send the ball out for a corner.

The resultant set piece saw a Skiverton header sent back out by Gueret for Gray to go close, hitting his shot just wide.

A minute later and Lynch, who was having a fine game at right back, sent in a great shot from 20 yards that went marginally wide and over.

Then just on the 44 minutes Morris broke into the final third to send in a powerful shot from 15 yards that caused the home 'keeper into anther fine save.

With half time upon us the Glovers support, who had sung their hearts out throughout, got to their feet to give the lads an ovation, and quite rightly so, it had been a fine performance.

Yeovil had almost seemed intimidated last year by this arena.  Not so this time around!

Swansea obviously felt that they needed more penetration as they moved into the final 45 minutes, so brought on Adebayo Akinfenwa for Rory Fallon, and with it they enjoyed immediate attack.

The Glovers were having none of it though, and on 48 minutes produced the best chance of the game so far when Morris broke well, sending a perfect ball to Stewart as he broke into the box.

A great chip shot came in and it looked as if a goal would result, but in the end the last defender managed to clear off the line with a rather acrobatic kick.  Very close!

The Glovers were putting on some good pressure now with Stewart, Morris, Cohen, Kalala and Terry all doing really well.

Then on 52 Russell Slade's side got their just reward when they scored.

Winning a corner over on the right Cohen sent in an excellent ball for Marcus Stewart on his debut to come in with a low header, smashing the ball into the back of the net!

What a great start to his Yeovil Town career!  The players, manager and the whole of Somerset celebrated!  1-0!!

The Glovers were on fire now, and backed by some noisy support they attacked superbly.  Morris went close on 56 minutes as the lads did their best to add to their advantage.

The whole stadium then rose in applause on 57 minutes, Glovers included, as former favourite Darren Way was added to the proceedings.

This buoyed his side, with Trundle going close soon after as he hit a powerful shot in that much to the dismay of South Wales came back out off the bar.

Minutes later Akinfenwa broke into the box ,and as he attempted to turn was brought down my Terrell Forbes.  The referee after sorting out a the situation awarded a penalty.

Up stepped Lee Trundle and belted the ball through the middle, giving Mildenhall no chance.  1-1.

Yeovil were unruffled and carried on with the business of attack - something which they continued to do well.  Swansea were buoyant too, with a good attacking game ensuing.

Akinfenwa was having a lot of influence now and on 66 minutes he won the ball in front of the Yeovil Box, and sent it to Robinson to put in a fine shot which went just wide.

Though the Swans were now holding most of the possession, the game was nicely poised, with both teams enjoying some good attacks.

stew

For Yeovil Stewart, Cohen and Kalala continued to impress, with Morris still doing well, though obviously tiring.

This influenced the Gaffer to replace him with Ishmael Welsh on 80 minutes, also adding Anthony Barry for JP Kalala at the same time in the hope that his team could make that final push and go on to win this game.

Both sides had a decent final five minutes, and though no chances really came about, both looked sharp and could easily have won the game.

cohen

The Gaffer added Kevin James in 88 minutes for Wayne Gray in a last ditch effort to create the three points.

By then however, the game seemed destined for a draw, despite Trundle missing a last minute sitter as he raced into space in the box to shoot over the bar.

If it had gone in then it would have been a gross injustice to Yeovil who were well worthy of their eventual point.

It had been a fine performance in which the lads not only attacked in an exceptional manner but defended with distinction too.

It had been a fine debut for Stewart who not only scored, but also lead the line with strength and influence, backed ably by fine performances from Morris, Cohen, Terry and Kalala, with Skiverton, Forbs and Lynch towers in defence.
