A good sized crowd turned out on a chilly and rather wet October Friday evening to see the Glovers take on Cheltenham Town, with Russell Slade hoping to continue the good results of late, but sadly ended in disappointment with the visitors taking a last gasp victory.

Coming into the game, the manager was forced into one change to his starting line-up following Arron Davies' call up to the full Welsh squad, with Wayne Gray joining the team, taking his place on the right wing.

The rest of the line-up was the same as seen at Brentford, with Stave Mildenhall in goal, behind a defence of Mark Lynch, Terrell Forbes, Terry Skiverton and Nathan Jones.

Paul Terry played the anchor role in midfield, with Chris Cohen and JP Kalala in the centre.  Kevin Cooper made his home debut on the left, along with Gray supporting Marcus Stewart up front.

With the game under way Cheltenham started off by putting on some of pressure, but it was nothing that the defence couldn't cope with, with Skiverton and Mildenhall both looking confident in action.

The Glovers were soon holding more possession, and in attack Kalala, Stewart, Cooper, Gray and Cohen started to assert their authority.

The Glovers were putting in some nice one touch passing, under much pressure from defenders who were intent on challenging for every ball.

To combat this Yeovil were holding the ball then attempting defence cutting passes to beat the last man, and they would have succeeded had it not been for some very close calls from the nearside assistant referee.

Cheltenham were also seeing plenty of the ball, with Odejayi, Melligan and Lowe causingproblems in the final third.

On 20 minutes Caines tried an ambitious chip shot from about 20 yards out.In the end the ball deflected off Paul Terry, causing Mildenhall to have to stretch on his line and fingertip the ball over the bar.

To be honest, as much as both teams were playing some reasonable football in the game, as it came up to the half hour the play wasn't really high on goalmouth or even penalty area action.

The visitors were having the better of it, and could well have scored on 28 minutes when a shot from Brian Wilson took a wicked deflection, and fooled Mildenhall, going wide of the far post.

A minute later and Caines sent a free kick over the bar from 30 yards out, and with it his side were well on top.

Yeovil's best chance to date come on 36 minutes when they were awarded a fee kick after Stewart had been brought down to the right of the box about 30 yards out.

Cohen hoisted it in for the incoming Terry Skiverton to get the merest of touches, with the ball going inches wide of the relieved 'keeper.

This seemed to prompt the Glovers into more attacks, with Stewart going close a minute later with a glancing header.

Some good pressure came in now, with Lynch, Stewart, Cohen, Jones and Terry putting in some decent moves.

Brown in the Robins' goal was tested more than once now, with some reasonable half chances coming from the Somerset side, but sadly no ball in the back of the net.

The half was destined to end with the same score line with which it had stared, and with it the crowd would have to wait until the second period for the chance of goals.

nathan

It had been a reasonable performance from the Glovers. They needed to up the tempo a bit in attack and increase the penetration into the box though.

The signs were good, particularly from what we'd seen in the final five minutes of the half.

The next half got off to a frantic start with both sides putting in some hard hitting moves, and the visitors had the first chance when Bird tested Mildenhall with a good shot which almost winded him.

With the next attack Cooper found Cohen, who then in turn fed to Stewart.A good run now came in from the former Ipswich man before he crossed to Gray to slide in and put the ball inches over the bar.

The Glovers were looking a lot more lively now, with some good work coming in from the attack as they really went for it, encouraged by a noisy crowd.

On 53 minutes an excellent move came in as Mark Lynch played a powerful cross in from the right for Chris Cohen to get his toe to a good close range shot that the 'keeper did well to keep out.

Both the Glovers and the enthusiastic crowd were buzzing now!

A 57-minute corner saw Terry Skiverton go close with a fine header.Terry then had a go again half a minute later, followed by a Stewart effort that went just wide.

terrell

The crowd sang loud and clear "We're going to score in a minute!" and the lads tried not to disappoint with some fine play.

Gray started to run his line well, Cooper saw more of the ball, Stewart was ever busy and Cohen well involved.

On 64 minutes Anthony Barry came on for JP Kalala who was having no luck whatsoever in the centre of the park.

Minutes later and Stewart played a great ball to the outside of the box to Gray to turn wonderfully and hook in a great shot that was inches from being in the back of the net.Great effort!

As the game moved into the final ten minutes Cheltenham seemed content to play the game out for a draw as they did their best to stifle the Glovers.

This frustrated the home crowd, who were also getting increasingly fed up with what they saw as questionable decisions by the officials.

Russell Slade threw another dice on 81 minutes when he brought on Welsh for Cooper, presumably hoping to speed up the supply on that left side.

The Glovers had been well on top, but they should have perhaps read the warnings when on 86 minutes Steve Guinan hit the post, then just two minutes later the ball ended up in the back of Steve Mildenhall's net.

Receiving the ball on the left side Mickey Bell got in a good cross for John Milligan to come in with a low header that bounced into the back of the net from close range, with the goalkeeper helpless to stop it.0-1.

The Glovers tried their best to come back in those final few minutes, with Stewart going close with a shot from a few yards out.

Then right at the end midfielder Paul Terry almost equalised with a brilliant low drive which brought a great save from Scott Brown to keep his side on top.

It was Yeovil's last chance of getting something from the game, and with it the team and the supporters went home empty handed.

cohen

Yeovil did not play their best football in the first half, but were a lot better in the second.

The game seemed destined to finish a 0-0 stalemate, but in the end with the need to push forward looking for victory they left themselves a exposed, sadly paying the price.

A good run of wins always had to come to an end. It's just a shame that this run had to end with such a sickening blow.
