The Glovers registered a fine 2-1 win at Whaddon Road this afternoon, with a professional performance that took them up to third in the league.

Scoring in each half, the in-form Wayne Gray grabbed both goals as his side came out deserved winners, despite sustaining periods of pressure from the home side.

Yeovil were resilient in defence, and impressive coming forward, and though they possibly rode their luck at times, they showed their strength, counter attacking to good affect.

Coming into the game, Russell Slade, playing the diamond formation, brought Scott Guyett into central defence, with Terrell Forbes moving to the right, replacing Matty Rose, who dropped to the bench.

Martin Cranie came in for Nathan Jones at left back, with the wingers replaced by Nicky Law in attacking midfield, and Arron Davies tucked in just behind the two strikers.

Cheltenham showed their intent from the off, attacking with force, and brought Mildenhall into action after Steve Gillespie shot well from the angle in the first few minutes.

Having changed to a flat 4-4-2, with Davies on the right and Law on the left, Yeovil soon showed their attacking strength with some impressive moves, creating their first chance on 4 minutes, with Cohen shooting wide from just outside the box.

Gillespie and Melligan were threats for Cheltenham, in what was a good open game that was seeing Yeovil enjoying some good possession.

As the game passed the fifteen-minute mark it was perhaps a little scrappy at times, and needed a goal.

Yeovil duly provided this on 20 minutes when Stewart received the ball on the left of the box to send in a measured cross for Gray to head in at the far post.1-0

The goal prompted the Robins in sustained attack, with Mildenhall making a great one handed save from Gillespie a minute later.

Yeovil were still doing well, and Law sent in a good angled shot from 20 yards soon after, with him trying it again three minutes later with a decent effort from 30 yards.

The Glovers nearly made it two on the half hour when the impressive Gray made a good run down the left to chip it in for Stewart, who amazingly hit his close range effort over the bar.

Cheltenham ended the half strongly, throwing men forward as they looking to get back on terms, with shots from Bird and the Gillespie forcing Mildenhall into some excellent one handed saves.

Yeovil held on comfortably though, and went in at the break fully deserving their lead.

Half Time - Cheltenham Town: 0  Yeovil Town: 1

Cheltenham made a determined start to the new half, but Yeovil soon got into the attack again with some good football.

On forty-eight minutes though, Guyett, presumably suffering a reoccurrence of his ankle injury, was replaced like for like by Rose in the centre.

Law, Gray, Stewart and Cohen were doing well, but the Robins were upping the pressure, hitting the Yeovil box, though being denied by a confident Steve Mildenhall, and determined defence.

By the midway point of the half they were well on top, continuing to pile on the pressure.

Odejayi had header come off the bar, Lowe was denied by a Cranie on the line, with the busy Gillespie chipping over the bar.

However, Yeovil counterattacked well, and doubled their lead on 62 minutes.

Grabbing the ball in midfield, Chris Cohen sent a wonderful cross field pass to Arron Davies to cut his way into the box, draw the defender to send in a defence splitting cross for Gray to bang in from 6 yards. 2-0!

Cheltenham continued to attack, with Gillespie twice going close, but the Glovers could have increased their lead on 68 minutes when Gray set up Stewart in the box, only for the 'keeper to clear.

Skiverton had a shot well saved by 'keeper on 79 minutes, with Davies going close with a volley soon after.

As the game entered the last ten minutes Cheltenham were in control as they hit the Yeovil box from all angles.

Duff had a header cleared off the line by Kalala, with Forbes doing the same minutes later from a Spencer effort, after a catalogue of shots.

Cheltenham deserved a goal, and got it in injury time when Gillespie had a shot saved by Mildenhall, with John Finnigan scoring from the rebound. 2-1.

In the end it was just a consolation as Yeovil held on well to take the points, after what had been a resilient and composed performance.
