With a minute to go this afternoon, a nervous looking Yeovil Town looked to be heading towards a stalemate after a rather scrappy game with Chesterfield, but then from nowhere Nathan Jones received the ball and proceeded to volley in from 30 yards to give his side a valuable three points.

This had not been a vintage display from the Glovers, but it was still one which, in the end, produced the goods, and keeps them well in touch with the chasing pack in League One.

Coming into the match, Russell Slade changed the formation to 4-3-3, with Nathan Jones coming back into the line-up after his groin surgery, and Lee Morris returning to the attack, playing up front along side Wayne Gray, with Marcus Stewart tucked in just behind.

Yeovil were not at the best in the first half, with Chesterfield the much better team, playing some lively football, that put the Glovers under a certain amount of pressure.

Thankfully, they were not very convincing in front of goal, and although there were a couple of scary moments, a confident looking Steve Mildenhall never looked in much danger of conceding.

The Spireites played it tight though, allowing very little into their final third, and on many occasions broke down Yeovil attacks in midfield before they had the chance to shine.

Saying that, the Glovers' passing game was not as good as usual, and subsequently they never got into their stride.

Often they would resort to playing long balls through the middle to little effect, and as a result a rather scrappy affair ensued.

The first chance of the game was created on six minutes when Paul Shaw broke clear and forced Mildenhall into a fine smothering save from 15 yards, with Paul Hall missing the follow up.

The game moved on, and the visitors produced some good pressure, enjoying a number corners and free kicks, but each time Yeovil held strong, denying them well.

The action was not pretty to watch as the half continued, with only a few half chances for Marcus Stewart.

In fact, Yeovil's first clear cut chance didn't come until the 44th minute when Jones sailed a free kick into the box for Skiverton to head just wide.

As the sides left the pitch for the break, Russell Slade would have had plenty to say in preparation for the second half, but with the score still at 0-0 his team still had everything to play for.

The Glovers were much improved in the second half, with their football getting better and better.

Arron Davies became an increasing threat in attack, with Stewart, Morris and Cohen also having an influence on the game.

Davies did well on 51 minutes when he received the ball 20 yards out, and turned well, shooting just wide.

This seemed to give the lads confidence, with them to have the better of the game.

However, they still had problems in breaking through the mean Chesterfield defence, and as a result produced very few chances on goal, though Stewart went close on 55 minutes and Kalala shot wide soon after.

Still Yeovil attacked, and on 62 minutes after Gray was brought down just outside the box, Davies curled a free kick towards goal, and was unlucky to see it deflect away.

Stewart went close on 73 minutes, and Adam Rooney was added soon after to give the attack some useful height.

The next attack saw Davies beat the last man to go clear on goal, but was cruelly brought down by Rueben Hazell. Another free kick, and Cohen sent the ball to Stewart on the right side to hit a shot just wide.

There was some sustained pressure coming from Yeovil now as they went for the win, but the visitors were still stubborn in defence, and looking as if they would hold on.

Though the game was still scrappy at times, Yeovil deserved something for their efforts in a much improved second half.

It duly came on 89 minutes, and from the unlikely source of Nathan Jones, with the Welshman volleying the ball superbly from 30 yards off the under side of the bar and into the goal. 1-0!

Huish Park celebrated with great excitement, with Nathan doing his best to join the crowd in tribute to his first ever Yeovil Town goal.

Even Russell Slade joined in, hugging his players as they rejoiced, and rightly so.

The manager had just seen his side dramatically win what could prove a vital three points as the season now rapidly moves to it's exciting conclusion.
