Yeovil Town this afternoon settled their nerves with a good win over Leyton Orient at Huish Park, after they came back from a goal down to deservedly take the game 2-1.

Coming into to the match Russell Slade went with an unchanged line-up, but instead of a flat 4-4-2 he adopted a diamond formation, with Marcus Stewart playing in the hole just behind the front pairing of Wayne Gray and Lee Morris.

The Glovers did not play their most flowing football of the season in the first half, but they still put in a determined display which saw them have a good measure of the attacks.

However, they failed to create themselves enough meaningful chances, and certainly seemed to lack the spark required to really take a hold of the game.

Cohen, Morris, Kalala and the lively Gray were still seeing plenty of the ball, and looking good in parts, but on the whole it was disappointing.

Orient were gaining in influence, playing some good football and probably enjoying the better of the play, with their best chance coming to Tudor on 4 minutes, with him shooting wide following a cross from Chambers.

The visitors were not overly impressive, but they were spirited and enjoying a certain amount of success going forward, Jarvis breaking into the box on 14 minutes, testing Mildenhall with a good low shot.

Yeovil created themselves a few half chances, but the first clear cut one came on 21 minutes when after some fine work between Rose and Cohen, the latter crossed in for Gray to go close, with a volley that went inches over the bar.

Two minutes later Cohen saw a decent effort also go just over the bar, and Yeovil were at last starting to show signs of being able to get the ball into the back of the net.

Leyton Orient were always looking dangerous though, with Alexander and Chambers in the thick of most of their moves.

Despite Orient having the better of the game, it was still perhaps a surprise when they took the lead on 31 minutes when Alexander received the ball in midfield and sent it to Ryan Jarvis to shoot past Mildenhall from 12 yards. 0-1.

Orient had the better of the last ten minutes of the half as they pressed for a second goal, and they should have got it when Alexander sent in a low cross on 35 minutes fort Craig Easton to send the ball over the bar from 10 yards when it looked easier to have got it in the net.

Half Time - Yeovil Town: 0  Leyton Orient: 1

Russell Slade made two changes at half time, bringing on Knights and Barry for Morris and Stewart, with his team going on to make a fine performance.

Gray was looking good, and sent in a cross on 50 minutes for Knights to go close with a low volley.

Yeovil were playing some good football, with Cohen, Davies, Gray and Knights impressing.

Knights went close again on 56 minutes, shooting just wide, and Cohen shot over the bar three minutes later, with Davies sending in a good angled shot from the right soon after.

Yeovil now increased the speed of their attacks, though still not creating a massive amount in front of goal.

However, they could have been awarded a penalty on 67 minutes when Jones was brought down in the box, but the referee waved play on.

Two minutes later Gray powered his way in and sent in a low shot that was heading for the near post, but Garner just got a hand to it.

penalty

Eventually the pressure told, with Yeovil equalising on 77 minutes via their first penalty of the season, after Jones was upended in the box, Gray coolly stepping forward to convert. 1-1.

Yeovil now attacked with force, looking to kill off the opposition with another goal, hitting them from all angles.

The winning goal came on 83 minutes when Arron Davies crossed into the heart of the box for John Mackie to slice the ball into the back of his own net.  2-1!

Both teams attacked in the final minutes, and indeed the visitors could have got a late equalizer when Alexander got in a good header off a Tudor corner, but Mildenhall was equal to it with a superb save.

celebration

So three valuable points that take Yeovil up to 5th in the table, and set them up nicely for the trip to Ashton Gate next weekend.
