Yeovil Town put in a resounding second half performance at Brunton Park, coming back from being a goal down to record a superb 4-1 victory over Carlisle United.

Coming into the game, Russell Slade retained last week's 4-4-2 formation, playing Steve Mildenhall in goal, with a defence made up of Nathan Jones and Andy Lindegaard on the full backs, and Terrell Forbes in the centre, partnering Terry Skiverton, who was back in the side having recovered from illness.

Moving into the midfield, Chris Cohen and Jean-Paul Kalala made up the centre pairing, with Peter Sweeney on the left and Arron Davies on the right, backing Marcus Stewart and Leon Best up front.

To be fair, Yeovil didn't really get going in the first half, not being allowed to settle for any length of time by the opposition, and thus didn't really produce their most flowing football.

Both sides got off to reasonable starts though, but it was Carlisle who seemed intent on gaining an early advantage, and forced two quick corners that first saw Jeff Smith go close, then Mildenhall clear a multitude of shots in a goal mouth scramble.

The Glovers eventually calmed the play though, holding the ball well in midfield.

Carlisle were still dangerous from the set plays, and proved this well on 11 minutes when Zigor Aranalde got in a good header from a free kick, which forced Mildenhall into a superb diving save, tipping the ball over the bar one handed.

Gall was having a good game and was causing a few problems from the right wing, keeping Nathan Jones on his toes thoughout the first period.

By the 15th minute Carlisle were well on top with some good fast moving attacks, utilising both wings, as they hit the Glovers' box from both angles, bringing the best out of both Terrell Forbes and Steve Mildenhall.

Yeovil certainly weren't out of it though, and when in attack both Stewart and Best were combining well up front, with Cohen and Davies in Midfield causing a few problems too.

On the whole it was mainly one way football though, with the home side the dominant force.

However, as the game reached the half hour mark Carlisle slowed their game, allowing the Glovers to come back into it.

Sweeney and Cohen were seeing a lot of the ball now, with Stewart looking lively up front too.

The game was fairly even now, with neither side really firing on full cylinders, and chances on goal far a few between.

What opportunities there were belonged to Carlisle, with Gall shooting over the bar from the angle on 29 minutes and Hawley forcing Mildenhall into a good smothering save shortly after.

Continuing, Gall shot wide again on 34 minutes, and Joe Garner headed over the bar on 36 minutes from an Aranalde cross.

These chances seemed to inspire the home side, and as a result they ended the half with some strong play, getting into some good positions, and causing the Glovers a few problems.

On 41 minutes Andy Lindegaard came off injured to be replaced by Anthony Tonkin, with Nathan Jones moving to right back.

Two minutes later Carlisle took the lead when Arandale sent a free kick into the box from the right.

The ball was cleared, but only as far as Gall who knocked it back into the danger area for Joe Garner to volley in from 12 yards.  0-1

Things went from bad to worse for Russell Slade's side as Marcus Stewart limped seconds before the break, being replaced by Wayne Gray.

skivo

Looking back, this had not been the best performance by Yeovil, and certainly the Gaffer would have given some stern words at the break to get his side to raise their game.

What ever he said must have been resounding, because the Glovers came out a different team in the second half, and proceeded to turn the game on its head!

Half Time - Carlisle United: 1  Yeovil Town: 0

Presumably injured, Terrell Forbes failed to come out for the second period, being replaced by Scott Guyett.

Yeovil got off to a good start too, with Leon Best going close on 48 minutes.

A minute later they were level.

Advancing on the home defence, Best beat a couple of defenders to send ball to Wayne Gray on the right, with the former Southend man bursting into the box to cooly slot the ball home under the 'keeper from 15 yards.1-1.

The Glovers continued to up their game, with Cohen and Davies looking good in midfield, and the Best / Gray partnership looking dangerous up front.

Carlisle were still a force themselves, and with it, the supporters were now watching a highly entertaining match.

Moving past the 60-minute mark, the home side started to mount the pressure again, with Yeovil called upon to perform some often desperate defending.

They soon played themselves out of it though, and as a result the game was developing into a fine contest.

Both sides were now holding some good possession and playing some tidy football, both looked capable of nicking a goal.

And Yeovil did just that on 71 minutes!

Awarded a free kick from the left of midfield, Peter Sweeney sent in a wonderful free kick to the unmarked Leon Best on the far right to head in from a few yards out.  A well-delivered and well-taken goal!  2-1!

The home crowd really got behind their team now, motivating them to attack Yeovil, looking to come back into the game.

The Glovers were in resolute mood though, and had no wish to give away their newly found lead.

Initially some great defending came in from the likes of Tonkin and Skiverton, but they soon broke into attack, with Gray, Cohen and Best all producing some good football.

As the game started to reach it's conclusion it still had the potential to go either way, but as the minutes ticked by you started to get the feeling that it was going to be Yeovil's day.

Joe Garner almost spoiled the party on 88 minutes though, when he sent in a powerful shot from 10 yards that looked goal bound, but Mildenhall pulled off a wonderful smothering save to deny him.

As you would expect, the Carlisle piled on the pressure in the last few minutes, forcing a number of corners, but the Glovers defended bravely, and in fact grabbed another goal in the final minute to make the game safe.

Leon Best received the ball, and having beaten his man sent in a low shot from 25 yards that beat the goalkeeper, with the ball rebounding off the right side post and into the back of the net.3-1!

Yeovil were not finished, and grabbed a fourth goal well into in injury time when Leon Best advanced on the Cumbrians defence to lay the ball off to Chris Cohen on the right to bang home from just inside the box. 4-1!

The Yeovil players linked into a huddle for two or three minutes after the game, with Russell Slade in the centre, obviously praising them for their resounding second half come back.

It's true to say that they had not been at their best in the first half, but they came back superbly and made the best of their chances in the second period.

Carlisle were perhaps unfortunate to lose by such a margin, but at the same time Yeovil fully deserved the points.
