Yeovil Town notched up their first points of the season this afternoon at Huish Park, beating a determined Port Vale side 1-0.
The Glovers played well in the first half, and this resulted in them taking the lead on 17 minutes, with Justine Cochrane scoring on his home debut.

The visitors looked better in what was sometimes a scrappy second period, but the Glovers kept their lead with a resilient performance, and deservedly won the match.
Coming into the game, Russell Slade made a number of changes following the disappointment of Tuesday night.

Matty Rose came in at left back, with Craig Alcock making his full debut on the right of defence.
In midfield Justine Cochrane was preferred on the left of midfield, with Manchester United's loanee Ritchie Jones in the line-up partnering Lee Peltier in the centre of midfield, and Marcus Stewart was back up front in place the injured Lee Morris.

Yeovil dominated the first forty-five minutes, showing some fine movement through the midfield, with Jones, Cochrane, Peltier and Stewart in fine form.
And they started in determined mood, when a good move involving Peltier and Stewart saw Jones hit an angled ball just over the bar in the opening minute.

The football was great to watch at times as the midfield stroked the ball about.
Port Vale having some attacks too, but a well organised Yeovil Town defence were keeping them at bay.

Yeovil were always the better side though, and it was no surprise when they took the lead on 17 minutes, when a lovely pass from Stewart set Jones up on the right to send in an inch perfect ball for Cochrane to flick in from five yards. 1-0.

Two minutes later Jones sent in another good cross for Lloyd Owusu to head just wide, and the Glovers were in buoyant mood.
Yeovil were on top, though Vale were still playing their part in what was a competitive game.

Vale came more into it later in the half, and on 29 minutes Akpo Sodje curled in a good shot that went just wide from outside the box, and four minutes later Steve Mildenhall pulled off a great reaction save from a decent shot in from Danny Whitaker.
The Glovers turned up the heat for the final fifteen minutes, with Peltier, Jones, Stewart and Owusu seeing plenty of the ball.

Not many chances were created, but on 36 minutes they were awarded a corner that was cleared, but only as far as Craig Alcock, who had a fine game, to send in a good shot from 40 yards that was caught by Anmon in the Valiants' goal.
Yeovil could have doubled their lead in the opening move of the new half when Owusu set up Williams to beat the off-side trap and speed his way into the box, to shoot just over the bar from 8 yards.

There was more urgency in Vale's football now, but Yeovil kept it tight at the back, and the visitors had only limited chances.
The wet and slippery conditions were not helping with the flow of the match, and in essence the second half became a scrappy.
The Glovers continued to try and play football, and though not reaching the heights of the first period, they were strong in their determination to win the match, and on 61 minutes a thunderous shot from Cochrane from outside the box saw Anmon just manage to hold the ball.

In the 65th minute Slade decided to add Paul Warne for Williams, and almost immediately their movement improved.
Vale were still a threat and on 73 minutes Keith Lowe went close from a corner with a good header, but Mildenhall brilliantly tipped the ball one-handed over the bar. Great save.

The Valiants were seeing the better of the action in front of goal, although Yeovil went close on 79 minutes when substitute Darryl Knights headed just wide from a Cochrane cross.
The Glovers raised their game in the final ten minutes, with Warne and Cochrane getting balls into the box, creating chances.

On 81 minutes, Jones slid in but just failed to make contact with a Warne cross, with Knights going close from another Warne cross a minute later.

Marc Richards almost nipped in at the end, but by then Yeovil were not about to give up their points, and deservedly won the game.
