Talking to the press after the game, Russell Slade was seething as he told those present how the referee had, in his opinion, handed Tranmere an undeserved point in the dying moments of the game.
The Yeovil boss had just watched his side draw 1-1 with the Merseysiders, in a match that his Glovers team had been looking like taking all three points.

Marcus Stewart had given Yeovil the lead twelve minutes after the break with a wonderful 25 yard shot, and with it they went on to dominate the rest of the game.
Then some six and a half minutes into four minutes of injury time, the referee awarded a free kick when he judged that Terrell Forbes had brought down Chris Greenacre on the edge of the Yeovil Box.

Steve Davies then stepped up and sent the ball past Steve Mildenhall with a well taken free kick.
Along with most of the home crowd, Russell Slade felt that the free kick should never have been given, especially after watching the incident again on video after the match had finished.

Slade went on to tell the press that Yeovil were denied a deserved win after a number of errors by the referee, going on to say that to lose in such a manner was hard to take.
Continuing with the diamond formation, Yeovil made just one change to the starting line-up, bringing Nathan Jones in at left back, Matty Rose switching to the right side, with Craig Alcock dropping to the bench.

Tranmere probably had the better of the first half as they held most of the possession, with Craig Curran, Steve Jennings and Steve Davies seeing plenty of the ball, the latter bringing the best out of Mildenhall in the 6th minute, as the Yeovil 'keeper brilliantly tipped the ball over the bar from a powerfully taken shot.
When in possession, Yeovil were also looking comfortable, with Paul Warne, Marcus Stewart, Ritchie Jones and Lloyd Owusu all in confident mood.

Warne went closest for his side, when on 8 minutes he hit a thunderbolt that looked to be going in, but unluckily came off the under side of the bar.

Tranmere continued to look the stronger side, enjoying the better of the attacks, with Davies a menace throughout, and he could well have scored on 18 minutes when he sent in a great 25 yard effort, but Mildenhall denied him with a superb finger tip save over the bar.

The game was becoming quite physical, and Russell Slade was forced into making two substitutions in quick succession, with Anthony Barry coming on for the injured Justin Cochrane on 25 minutes, and later Darryl Knights for Lloyd Owusu who had been knocked out after a clash of heads with Greenacre five minutes later.
Yeovil ended the half well though, with Barry shooting just wide after a great run and cross in from Warne, and they could have had a penalty when Stuart seemed to have been brought down in the box right at the end.

Yeovil continued to improve and were the brighter in the second half, with Ritchie Jones, Stewart, Peltier and Warne all well involved with some good passing moves.

A goal looked to be on the cards, but when it came it did so from nowhere, when Stewart received the ball from Darryl Knights to blast it in from 25 yards.
The goal inspired them to play some buoyant football.

Tranmere still attacked well themselves, but the Glovers were holding most of the possession and looking the more likely to add to the game's tally.
Knights, who was having a good game, fired the ball over the bar from just outside the box on 65 minutes and on 72 minutes Warne went close at the far post, only denied by an interception from Greenacre, following a great cross in from Stewart.

Ben Chorley had headed over the bar two minutes previously, but the Glovers did not look in danger of relinquishing their lead, and could well have wrapped it up on 86 minutes when Stuart went close with a powerful 30 yard effort that went just wide.

And as the game went into extra time it looked to be in the bag for Yeovil, but then the referee intervened and Steve Davies sent his supporters back to Merseyside with what had previously seemed an unlikely point.

Final score - Yeovil Town: 1 Tranmere Rovers: 1
