Russell Slade and his Yeovil Town team are still desperately searching for the final few points to mathematically secure their future in League One.

Not for the first time this season they suffered the agony of a late goal that killed off their chances.

The Gaffer found it hard to disguise his disappointment after the game: "We came with a game plan and frustrated Carlisle, and I think a draw would have been a fairer result.

"Carlisle huffed and puffed at the start of the second half but we kept our noses in front and looked a threat on the break.

"The score line was harsh on us but there were positives to take out of the game. We need one more win to end our season, but the club is going through a period of transition with a lot of young players" said Slade.

The Glovers came to Carlisle with the home side intent on getting back to winning ways following their home defeat to Nottingham Forest and they started in a positive vein throwing everything bar the kitchen sink at on loan keeper Asmir Begovic, but he coped well.

Carlisle had chances when Terrell Forbes headed clear a Bridge-Wilkinson goal bound effort in the 22nd. minute and Livesey had an effort bounce just wide of Begovic's goal a few minutes later.

But it was the old experienced head of Marcus Stewart who broke the deadlock.

Stewart, who had left his match boots back at Huish Park and needed Chairman John Fry to bring them up for him, found himself some space and sent in a dipping shot from 25 yards to beat Westwood into the top corner.

It was a typical bit of quick thinking from the former Premiership top scorer and certainly put an extra stride into Yeovil's players.

Carlisle hit back but Begovic was again on hand to keep out shots from Murphy and Hackney, but at half time it was the travelling fans who were singing the loudest.

celebration

Chairman John Fry and Chief Executive Martyn Starnes had earlier given all the travelling fans an away shirt as a gesture of appreciation for travelling so far to support their team. A nice PR gesture.

John Ward changed things at half time for The Cumbrians and brought on Scott Dobie to partner Danny Graham up front and proceeded to put the Yeovil goal under siege.

Begovic though, was in inspired form and nothing seemed to phase him as Town withstood the onslaught and in fact Marvin Williams had the best chance but only managed a tame shot at Westwood when in a good position.

Dobie was beginning to influence more and more as the game wore on and in the 68th. minute Begovic did well to turn a fierce shot around the post.

But the pressure was beginning to tell and from a 76th. minute corner Carlisle equalised.

Bridge-Wilkinson's corner was met by Murphy and somehow the ball sneaked into the net through a ruck of players.

Manager Russell Slade had used his subs to liven up the Yeovil cause and Kirk and young Everton loanee Aiden Downes made an immediate impression.

Carlisle went for the winner but it was Yeovil who had the next chance when Andy Kirk found the space for a great shot that produced a wonder save from Westwood to deny Yeovil further encouragement.

Just when Yeovil thought they had weathered the storm though, Carlisle struck for perhaps an undeserved winner.

With the clock ticking down Madine got on the end of a Bridge-Wilkinson cross in and laid the ball off to Dobie who hammered home from ten yards.

It was an unjust finish for Yeovil and not the first time this season they have suffered a late goal to cost them points.

But there were positives to be taken out of the game for Slade, not least the contribution of Downes who looks a real prospect.
