Russell & Mascots

Saturday sees Yeovil Town visit the City Ground for the last match of the 2007/2008 Season. Colin Calderwood's men will no doubt need any motivation for the match following their 5-2 hammering at the hands of the Glovers in last year's Play-off semi final.

Nottingham Forest will be looking to clinch automatic promotion to the Championship against Yeovil after recording three successive wins in a row.

However things are never that simple in Football because as it stands at the moment Forest are currently one point behind second placed Doncaster who face relegation battlers Cheltenham.

If Doncaster win, Forest will find themselves once again in the playoffs. However if Forest win and Doncaster take a point at Cheltenham, the Glovers contingent will see the second promotion party this season with Forest clinching the last automatic spot.

Forest will also be promoted if they draw and Doncaster & Carlisle lose as they have a far superior goal difference.

Old rivalries were renewed back in September when Nottingham Forest travelled to Huish Park for the first time since the League One play-off semi-finals in May.

Yeovil Town manager Russell Slade made one change to the starting line-up that took three points at Brighton and Hove Albion last week, with Southampton loanee Simon Gillett dropping to the bench and making way for Matty Rose.

Nottingham Forest came into the game boasting an impressive recent vein of form, with former Glover Chris Cohen beginning the game in midfield following his summer move to the former European champions.

As the first half entered injury time Yeovil Town were unable to make the most of sleepy Forest defending as Matty Rose lashed wide from distance following some good work from Stewart.

The visitors replied by taking the ball to the other end of the pitch with a brave head from Yeovil captain Terry Skiverton blocking a strong shot before referee Andy Penn blew for half time.

Skipper Skiverton failed to return for the second half, with Ritchie Jones taking his place. Rose reverted to centre back, while Manchester Utd loanee Jones played on the right of midfield and Peltier slotted into central midfield.

The substitution would prove to be pivotal with the Glovers defence clearly missing Skiverton's presence.

The Glovers flew out of the traps for the second period and nearly had their hard work rewarded six minutes before the hour mark.

However, against the run of play, Forest found themselves one up a minute later as Yeovil were found defensively wanting.

A long cross from Kelvin Wilson picked out Luke Chambers who did well to fend off his marker and nod the ball into the net.

The Glovers looked to fight back but were made to look uncomfortable at the back as Forest strove to close the game off as a contest.

As the half wore on Yeovil continued to work hard in attack but struggled to break down a resilient Nottingham Forest unit, with the home team increasingly running out of ideas.

This resilience was rewarded on 79 minutes with an instinctive second that made the most of a glaring defensive error from Guyett.

With time on the ball and no apparent danger the Australian defender struck the ball against Agogo. From here on in there would be only one winner for the loose ball and the pacy striker lobbed it over a stranded Larrieu from 35 yards.

Two became three five minutes later when Yeovil were again caught napping at the back. The defensive back four stood statuesque as substitute Kris Commons waltzed past to latch on to a through-ball, dinking it over Larrieu stood in no-man's land and the ball bounced in off the crossbar.

The month of April saw Nottingham Forest record three successive wins in a row for the first time this season against Tranmere, Luton and recently Hartlepool United after Lewis McGugan scored in the 85th minute after coming off the bench on 70 minutes.

Yeovil welcomed Leeds United for the first time in the Glovers history but were unfortunate to fall to a 1-0 defeat at Huish Park which saw a record attendance of 9,527.

Yeovil, recently assured of League One safety, were arguably the dominant side throughout the match but couldn't break down the resilient promotion chaser's defence and turn their possession into goals.
