Chairman's last wish
Yeovil Town FC Chairman, John Fry will officially hand over his Chief Executive responsibilities to his successor Martyn Starnes at the end of next month.
Chairman Fry said "After 15 successful years in the job, I can say that on very limited resources, the Club has no debts, no loans and a Football League status that has not only brought national recognition to the Town of
Yeovil, but has given the local community a lot of pride and enjoyment over the years.
"I sincerely believe our Club is at the heart of our community. We are therefore at the forefront of any plans for the vision of Yeovil.
"Our importance to the South Somerset area and our achievements have been well recognised and acknowledged by both the South Somerset District and Yeovil Town Councils.
"We have the backing of an unbelievable fan base and the support of the Somerset business community, for which we are extremely grateful.
"My last wish before handing over the day to day duties of running the Club to Martyn would be for our Huish Park Stadium development plans to be supported by everyone in Yeovil, as a recognition of our importance to the future of the Town and to enable the progress of the Football Team to compete successfully at Championship League Level.
" We have laid the foundations on which to build our future at Huish Park, my wish is to bring further national recognition to the Town of Yeovil"
After months of consultations with interested parties the site plans, which are crucial to the ambitions of the Club, could soon be decided upon.
Sensible development of the Huish Park site has been under consideration for months and the Chairman feels they have concluded on a positive way forward which will benefit not only the club, but Yeovil as a whole.
The chairman however was still remaining tight lipped on the exact details. He said: "Without raising people's expectations the balls are in other people's courts at the moment.
"We have a pre-planning application in place, having put forward sensible plans and we are consulting with everyone concerned and that includes the covenant holders.
"We are getting excellent support from the council and there are also other people's plans (in the area) and transport issues.
"The club intends to consult with the fans when the time is right but people need to understand we are not just doing this for ourselves but for the town of Yeovil and South Somerset.
"It is a question of developing the football club into a seven-day operation."
Fry recognizes the Glovers will struggle to sustain a higher-level of football without first developing the infrastructure.
He said: "Our big problem at Yeovil Town is we do not have adequate cash flow outside of the supporters and the gate money.
"We can only charge so much and we are at a maximum level now.
"We are operating to 2007 prices and with substantial increases in our operating costs to deal with on an on going basis, we cannot squeeze the situation much further. Fans have their own budget problems to deal with."
The re-development of Huish Park is therefore crucial to the long-term financial future of our football club and our fan base.
