YEOVIL TOWN assistant manager Steve Thompson is hoping his side have picked up another non-league gem in mystery striker Troy Hewitt.
The youngster scored twice as the Glovers won 3-2 at Potters Bar Town last week and also impressed in a substitute outing in last night's 3-0 defeat to Bristol City.
Thompson refused to reveal too much about Hewitt's background but he is believed to have once appeared for Southend's youth team.
Thompson and Slade could now take him on tour to Devon this week. "He looked dangerous in his 20 minutes," said the Yeovil number two.
"He is raw but he has got a bit of ability there. He has a knack of getting into the box and taking chances as he did when he scored twice the other night.
"Someone who is very wise and knowledgeable in this game said believe what you see and I have seen the lad score two goals.
"I have seen him have a goalbound shot blocked tonight and he banged one in during training this morning and that made me think he has something.
"He did quite well in his 20 minutes but he still has a lot to learn. Nathan Smith came from Potters Bar and he has done very well since he has been here and Troy has been playing at a similar level."
Canada international goalkeeper Josh Wagenaar made his second appearance in goal and he and former Fulham academy stopper Corin Brown will travel to Devon.
"The lad (Wagenaar) has done nothing wrong in his 120 minutes for us," said Thompson. "He has impressed me with his distribution."
City boss Gary Johnson was impressed with the competitive nature of the game. He said: "It was a proper game and the lads had to be sharp or they got kicked.
"Our boys just got a little bit tired towards the end and it just proves they are not quite ready for the 90 yet but they are getting there.
"You don't pick up any points for winning friendlies but it's nice to get three goals and nice for our fans to see the team are going in the right direction."
Yeovil's first Errea Cup game is against Kidderminster at Bideford tomorrow night.
